PRESS ADVISORY - AUG 19 RALLY FOR FLOWS - SACRAMENTO

PRESS ADVISORY

WHO: The Klamath Justice Coalition, members of the Hoopa, Yurok and Karuk Tribes, environmental and fisheries organizations and hundreds of concerned citizens.

WHAT: Rally to prevent a catastrophic fish kill in the Klamath and Trinity Rivers.

WHERE: Bureau of Reclamation office - 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento CA, 95825. WHEN: 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 19, 2014

WHY: To demand that the Bureau of Reclamation release additional water into the Trinity and Klamath Rivers immediately to prevent a major fish kill. In contrast to previous years, the Bureau announced recently that it would not release additional water into the Trinity River until a fish kill begins. Biologists fear a repeat of the 2002 fish kill when low flows and warm water conditions caused by dams and diversions led to the death of an estimated 70,000 salmon. The rally supports the tribal biologist’s assertion that a minimum of 2,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) be maintained near the mouth of the Klamath River.
